A Million Little Pieces is a semi-fictional memoir written by James Frey. It tells us about his alcohol and drug addiction, and how he dealt with his inner rage to overcome all obstacles. The book begins with James Frey waking up in a plane and not knowing how he got there. When his parents found out about his drug and alcohol addiction, they decided to send him to a rehabilitation center. Everything that happens from this moment on will give readers an idea as to why the book was so titled. You will also find out the truth about Frey's mental and physical troubles. The author recalls how he had to get a root canal removed without anesthesia because his body might have reacted badly to Novocaine. Also, he had to attend several family therapy sessions against his will. As the story goes, we begin to understand that it is the anger that Frey has within himself that causes him to turn to alcohol and drugs.

Mujahideen: The Enemy Within Recent acts of terror have exploded the myth that the Indian youth is insulated from the global terrorism phenomenon. Communal riots post the 1992 Babri Masjid incident, the rise of the Student's Islamic Movement of India and the mutation of a section of aspiring Muslim youth into terrorists with the help of forces across the border are all indicative of this. An extraordinary feat of investigative journalism, this book is the first-ever attempt to link jihadists all over India and trace their linkages with terrorists based abroad. A gripping, deeply researched book that systematically exposes the true nature of home-grown jihad.

Fear and anger are human emotions. Like any other emotion, they occur spontaneously without a person's free will and are triggered by stimuli which can either be internal or external, real or imaginative. Both have the potential to yield either positive or negative results depending on how individuals use the energy inherent in them. Both have the potential to generate stress which causes the body to react with fight or flight response. This response is life saving in emergency situations, but if it persists for long or occurs frequently, it can cause damages to a person physically as well as mentally. Luckily, there are a number of techniques available through which the aroused state of mind and body complex arising out of rear and anger can be cooled down and brought to a state of homeostasis. In a normal state of mind, with the awareness of different faces of fear and anger in totality, a person can introspect and employ various techniques in order to successfully face and neutralize their adverse effects.

The fact that developed countries produce more carbon than developing countries seems to be a myth when seen in the context of India emitting about 1.350 Tonnes of CO? for per 1000$ of GDP against Japan emitting a mere 0.262 for the same. Consequently, India as a developing country, has a larger share in Global Warming than Japan, as the representative of the developed countries of the world. What is the key to further the economy of India while simultaneously curbing the impact on the environment? Arun Firodia presents ways to deal with this stalemate of growth vs. global warming in his book 'Green Growth'. What is climate change? How do domestic consumption, transport, public utilities, five star hotels, municipal consumptions etc. add to it? What ways can be adopted to address these issues and how to make Pune a carbon neutral city are the core questions to which he suggests answers derived from his in-depth study, research and extensive entrepreneurial experience.

Key To Health was written during Gandhi's incarceration, in the Aga Khan prison, in Pune city. It was originally written in his mother tongue, Gujarati, which was later translated by his physician, Sushila Nayar. The book is divided into two parts. In the first section, Gandhi listed each chapter title by some of the common foods people ingest such as caffeine, opiates, water, tobacco and other edibles, and the their impact in the human body. In the second section, he talks at length about the influences of the five natural elements, earth, air, wind and sun (fire), within our bodies. Key To Health offers simple and easy-to-follow principles in areas such as diet, sleep and exercise. According to Gandhi, ingesting certain foods and having specific lifestyle patterns, could throw these five elements off balance, which was ultimately responsible for ill health. He steadfastly maintained that a healthy body could be achieved by using the five elements as a cure, therefore eliminating the need to visit a conventional doctor. For Gandhi, achieving good health also encompassed the state of achieving brahmacharya. He fervently believed, that physical sexual acts only ought to be used for procreation and not for hedonistic pleasures. This was necessary in order to save one's vital energy force, which was the core of achieving optimal health.
  • About the Author: Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, was the leader of the Indian Nationalist Movement during the time the British ruled India. He is best remembered for his use of nonviolent civil disobedience to lead movements and demonstrations. Apart from Key to Health, Gandhi authored several notable works such as Hind Swaraj and The Story of My Experiments With Truth. In Key To Health, Gandhi used a narrative style, written in first person to convey his message about achieving good health. He often cited anecdotal evidence to lend support to his theories. Mohandas Gandhi was married to Kasturba Gandhi, with whom he had four children. Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948, in New Delhi.

For thousands of loving and concerned parents of autistic children, the suspicion that something may be wrong comes long before the clinical diagnosis of autism, PDD (pervasive developmental disorder), or Asperger's syndrome. When rounds of testing and consultations confirm parents' worst fears, their emotional turmoil is matched by an overriding practical concern: What do we do next? The World of the Autistic Child is by far the most complete and comprehensive book ever written for the parents of autistic children, and for the teachers, child specialists, and other professionals that care for them. Written by Dr. Bryna Siegel, a developmental psychologist and director of a large university clinic for autistic children, it provides help and hope not only for the children, but for their families--the parents, grandparents, siblings, and other caregivers who must come to grips with their own grief and confusion following a diagnosis of autism or other related disorder. Dr. Siegel believes that parents' best defense is to acquire, as early as possible, the knowledge and the parenting skills they will need to work with professionals to help their child fulfill his or her potential. This book, therefore, is about understanding the diagnosis of autism, the available treatments, and how to decide what is best for a particular child with autism or PDD. Straightforward and sympathetic, Dr. Siegel guides readers through the thicket of symptoms and labels, explaining the crucial importance of intensive early education, and how to find the resources and help that are available. Behavior modification, the development of daily living skills, guidelines for selecting and designing schooling, mainstreaming, the role for traditional academics in educating higher functioning children and young people, building effective parent-teacher relationships, psychoactive medications, and dealing with the possibility of residential placement are all covered. Dr. Siegel teaches parents and professionals to use their own common sense and personal observations in evaluating the many highly publicized but unorthodox and often untested treatments for autism, including the much-touted facilitated communication (F/C), holding therapy, auditory training, Options therapy, allergy treatments, and special diets. Pulling together a wealth of long-needed information on the latest educational and medical advances, The World of the Autistic Child is a superb guide and resource that no one who cares about autistic or developmentally disabled young people will want to be without.
  • ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Bryna Siegel has directed the Pervasive Developmental Disorders Clinic and Laboratory at Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute at the University of California, San Francisco for the past six years, and earlier, was one of the founders of the Autism Clinic at Stanford University. She is the author of The Working Parents Guide to Child Care, What About Me? Growing Up with a Developmentally Disabled Sibling, and numerous professional publications.
