Children : Divert your child from Games to the World of Books!

Hai,

I surprise my child with small gifts!. I told her that this time, when i am not in home, she will get a parcel with a gift. It had been a herculean task, not to tell her what it is.

I know the parcel was delivered and I know she was not excited. I was wondering, should I buy her books in future. Above all, how to pull her to the habit of reading books

I came to know that she was expecting toys, chocolates etc.

I browsed some parenting tips on reading and not of much help!

I did research and here are few tips to initiate your children's interest towards books:-
- Spend time with your children and find out their interests. The first set of books, which you buy should be of their interest-hobby, etc.. - Books on Colouring, Painting etc.

-Be at home, when book is delivered. While opening the parcel, ask them what could be based on the shapes. Open the book, show them few books, appreciate the contents of it. Insist that they read/ draw a page of their choice. Be with them while they finish the 1st exercise.

- When they are bored, ask them to read for some time.

- If you have the habit  of read the books, magazines. Do it in their presence. Tell them that child and parent reading together the books of their choice.

- Allot them a bag/ shelf to display their books. Name the shelf with your child name.

- When children's friends visits your home. Ask your child to show them their bookshelves. This will also increase her friends interest towards books and the group will start exploring a new world together.

- Once they read a story. Ask them to do a drama or story telling.

Above all, Parents should be choosy in selecting books for the children. You can choose Dr.Seuss Books for your children.

Any Book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him.
